The use of studs is recommended over bolts for main bearing installation for a number of reasons.
- Ability to obtain more accurate torque readings because studs don't 'twist' into the block
- Less force is exerted on the block giving improved life, especially on alloy blocks
- Easier engine assembly
- proper alignment of bearing caps every time
ARP main bearing studs are designed and manufactured to exceed the most stringent aerospace specifications. High quality 8740 chrome moly steel is used and heat treated in house to provide a stud with a tensile strength of 200,000 psi and with threads up to 10 x stronger than other studs.
Supplied with hardened parallel ground washers and aerospace quality nuts.
