An intercooler serves a vital function on turbocharged applications. Forced induction creates heat as you compress the air into the engine. It's important to then cool it down again. Hot air contains less oxygen and increasing inlet temperatures can increase the chance of detonation.
Almost all vehicles with turbocharged engines come with an intercooler of some sort. Hot air from the turbo is passed through a core which then has air flow over it. This cools the air down before it is fed back into the engine.
Mishimoto use a bigger, more efficient core which can flow more air more quickly. This alone can result in more power. It also prevents loss of power as temperatures rise. Mishimoto have achieved temperature reductions of around 7 degrees Celcius with their 80% bigger core. This equates to around 6 whp and 8 lb ft of torque with the intercooler alone. It also supports even bigger gains in combination with tuning.
It’s not just about core size with an intercooler. You also want as efficient a flow of air from the turbo to the engine as possible to minimise any possible delays between the turbo spooling and cold air making it into the engine.
Top-Mount intercoolers can be prone to heat soak as they sit on top of the engine bay, but Mishimoto have done their best to offset this with efficient core design.
As with all Mishimoto vehicle specific intercoolers, this is a direct mount and includes all necessary mounting hardware. Silicone hoses are included and available in a choice of colours.
